Start with useful defaults
Set the materials and production costs that apply to every variation. Each order uses those defaults unless one of its storefront option combinations matches a rule.
Add a material rule
- Open the listing’s material setup.
- Choose Add rule.
- Select the storefront options that identify the variation; leave an option as Any when it does not affect materials.

Choose only the options that change the material recipe; Any leaves that dimension unrestricted. - Change the material list or quantities for that rule, then save.
Add a production-cost rule
- Open Production costs for the listing.
- Choose Add rule.
- Select the option combination that changes labor, machine time, finishing, or another per-item expense.

A matching cost rule replaces the default production-cost list for that variation. - Enter the replacement cost lines for that rule, then save.
Know which matching rule wins
The rule with the most selected option dimensions wins. If equally specific rules both match, the rule tab furthest to the right wins.
- A Size + Color rule is more specific than a Size-only rule.
- A value of Any does not make the rule more specific.
- The matched count shows how many synced storefront combinations use the active rule.
Copy setup instead of rebuilding it
Use the copy control in the material or cost editor to bring in a compatible listing’s defaults. When the destination is empty, Meldsy can also copy compatible variation rules; rules whose option structure cannot be matched are skipped.
Check the result on the real variation
Use Detailed view to review saved setup, then open an order containing the affected variation. Confirm its materials, production costs, customer instructions, and Can Make estimate before relying on the rule.
